Martin Misicko

Blue Ridge District Chair

Dr. Misicko joined Carilion as Vice President of Facilities in April 2016. In addition to his regular responsibilities on the Roanoke campus, he works with our construction and design team adding his expertise and varied experience to our healthcare projects. Prior to joining, Dr. Misicko worked for Roanoke County Public Schools as director of operations and construction since 2004. In that role he oversaw the construction, renovation and maintenance of the school district’s facilities; supervised transportation for 14,000 students; and directed all emergency response situations for both crises and weather emergencies. Under his direction, the school district employed geothermal heating and cooling systems at multiple locations that have significantly reduced annual utility expenses, and in 2014, the district’s first elementary school earned a Gold LEED-certified rating.

Before moving to Roanoke from Pittsburgh, he supervised engineers and oversaw projects as regional field director for Continental Vanguard; designed production strategies to maximize efficiency and software to estimate project costs as project manager at Amaral & Neumeyer; and began his career as a project engineer at NDP, Inc.

Dr. Misicko is a member of many professional and community organizations, including Virginia Educational Facility Planners, Blue Ridge Council of Teachers of Mathematics (former president), National & Virginia Councils of Supervisors of Mathematics (former director), District Chair of Virginia Society of Healthcare Engineers (VSHE), and has served on the Board of Rotary International and the YMCA.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps; was an Eagle Scout, scoutmaster and executive board member for Boy Scouts of America; earned the Clean Valley Council Government Achievement Award in 2009; and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2015.
