Rick Sanders currently serves as the Plant Operations Manager/Clinical Support Center at VCU Health. Rick has more than 18 years of experience working in hospitals located in Tennessee, Maryland and now Virginia. Rick is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) through the American Healthcare Association (AHA), Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) through the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers, and maintains a First Grade Engineer License from the State of Maryland.
Rick is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served for more than 20 years. In the military, hespecialized in steam propulsion engineering, heating/ventilation/air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R), hydraulics, diesels and cryogenic liquids. Rick graduated from Crichton College, Memphis, TN in 2002.
Rick has previously served as a Co-Chairman for the Western Tennessee Chapter of the Tennessee Healthcare Engineering Association (THEA), Chairman of the Delmarva Regional Healthcare Mutual Aid Group (DRHMAG), and was a State of Maryland – Stationary Engineers Committee Board Member. He also served as an instructor for mechanical propulsion engineering systems at the U. S. Navy Engineering Service School Command in Great Lakes, IL and as a HVAC&R instructor at Worcester-Wicomico Community College, in Salisbury, MD. Rick has been involved with national (ASHE) and area healthcare engineering societies (CASHE – Chesapeake Area and THEA – Tennessee) for over 18 years. In his current role at SRMC, Rick is responsible for construction activities, the Plant Operations and Security departments, and serves as the SRMC Safety Officer. He is responsible for overseeing the Environment of Care and Emergency Management programs for the medical center which serves more than 12,000 inpatients and nearly 200,000 outpatients annually.
Rick enjoys spending time with his wife, Cathy, and their two rescued greyhounds; traveling and playing golf. Rick and Cathy have three adult sons, who live in Arizona, Tennessee and Maryland, and four grandchildren.
