Virginia Society of Healthcare Engineers
Mr. Lee Harrelson, brings 17 years of experience in the consulting engineering field and currently serves as a Managing Principal for CMTA’s Richmond and Arlington, Virginia offices. Lee graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Degree from The University of Virginia and a Master’s of Science in Engineering Management Degree from The George Washington University. He is a registered Professional Engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional, and was recognized by Consulting Specifying Engineer Magazine as a “40 Under 40” award winner, recognizing the nation’s top 40 engineers in the A/E/C business, under the age of 40.
Lee found his passion for engineering and architecture while participating in hand drafting competitions in high school. He started his professional career interning at Fermi National Accelerator Lab, where he helped to organize a site-wide motor vibration analysis program and authored his undergraduate thesis entitled, “Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Open Channel Flow Measurement Device Retrofits” to help optimize cooling systems supporting the Tevatron particle accelerator. Upon graduation from UVA, Lee became an Engineering Test Director at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, engineered numerous buildings as a Mechanical Engineer with URS Corporation, and eventually helped to start and grow TMR Engineering, an MEP engineering firm that merged with CMTA Consulting Engineers in 2015.
Lee’s current role involves charting the strategic direction for CMTA in the mid-atlantic region. In particular, Lee enjoys the challenge of mentoring, teaching, and motivating staff towards a common goal. He has been an adjunct lecturer and critic at the Catholic University of America where he taught MEP systems integration to aspiring architects and now enjoys speaking regionally on energy efficient building design.
Lee is an avid runner, but also enjoys hiking, cycling, photography, golf and cars in his spare time.
